Dr Peter Webster is WR&C’s founder and managing director.

Since completing his Ph.D. in 2001, Peter has worked across the university and GLAM sectors, for the the University of Sheffield (2001-4), the Institute of Historical Research/School of Advanced Study (University of London, 2004-12) and the British Library (2012-14). His most recent role has been as Head of Digital Scholarship and Innovation in Southampton University library (2023-6).

His whole career has been spent facilitating conversations between organisations, technologists and users of digital resources for research, helping organisations to understand their environment, their users’ needs, and to design services to meet them.

He has been team leader, people manager, policy developer, partnership builder, project leader, workshop facilitator, service manager, interface designer, tech tinkerer, exhibition curator, trainer, mentor and public speaker.

He is also a digital humanist and an historian of contemporary British religious history and has published widely in both areas (see the Publications page). He has been a member of the advisory boards of several learned societies, academic journals and other digital research projects. In 2023 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
