WR&C takes part in major historical digitisation project

Church, State and Nation in Britain, 1900-1939 is a three-year project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. It will create a freely available digital edition of the journals of Hensley Henson, bishop of Durham, famously trenchant public moralist and one of the greatest of English diarists. It is led by Dr Julia Stapleton of the University of Durham, in partnership with Durham Cathedral.

WR&C has a dual role in the project:

  • to design and oversee the process of converting transcribed text into machine-readable XML, and train and support project staff;
  • to gather user requirements for the public user interface, specify its functional requirements, oversee the development, and manage user acceptance testing.
